The sun is shining and the flowers are blooming everywhere!
It’s a beautiful time on campus…except for the fact the the dreaded finals are fast approaching. Projects, essays and exams are piling up faster than I can keep up with!
But, my dear sister knows just how to lift my out of my work sinkhole. She bought me two of Ben & Jerry’s new core flavors as a surprise. I’ve been craving these bad boys since they were unveiled on Snapchat earlier this year.
The two flavors I tried were Coconuts for Caramel Core and Cookies & Cream Cheesecake Core.
I find it easiest to organize my review of each according to a template I’ve whipped up.
Coconuts for Caramel
Description: Caramel and Sweet Cream Coconut ice creams with fudge flakes and a caramel core
Total Rating: 8/10
Very delicious! The caramel core is perfectly rich and smooth, while the coconut flavor is authentic. The fudge flakes are perfectly incorporated so much so that I didn’t even realize they were in there until they started melting in my mouth. They aren’t the thickness of fudge chips, so they aren’t really noticeable right off the bat. But they add another dimension to the overall flavor.
Name Consistency: 10/10
There is a good ratio between the coconut and caramel flavors, I’d say about 60:40.
It had a grittiness in the coconut half that is due to the nature of coconut flavors. It kinda brought the texture down a bit but it made the coconut taste more natural because you could feel the bits of coconut.
It was a very rich ice cream, as to be expected with Ben & Jerry’s. That’s part of the point of it coming in a pint. It has the richness of a half gallon packed in there. It is not the richest flavor they make, but it isn’t light enough to make me want to devour the whole pint guilt free.
The aforementioned coconut grit broke up the creaminess but not enough to make it any less delicious. The caramel core and flavor were beyond creamy.

Cookies & Cream Cheesecake Core
Description: Chocolate and cheesecake ice creams with chocolate cookies a cheesecake core
Total Rating: 8.25/10
Very intriguing flavor that mixed two of my favorite things in the world together. Overall, very rich and not recommended to be consumed in large quantities. Unless you want to watch How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and devour the entire pint. I’ve been there, who am I to judge?
Name Consistency: 6/10
Honestly, I thought this was just chocolate cheesecake core for a while when I was eating it. The cookie pieces were easily forgotten in the other dominant flavors.
If the name consistency was lacking, it was totally made up for in the accuracy of this core. It tasted like a rich slice of cheesecake right down the center of the pint. yum! (Alanna fun fact #3, cheesecake is my favorite dessert right behind ice cream)
This flavor is very rich. Like on the level of having a bellyache just from a few spoonfuls rich. It’s also very sweet, so if you want just a few sneaky mouthfuls of ice cream without having to break out the scooper, this is the one to sneak.
The creaminess of this ice cream goes hand in hand with the richness of this flavor. The chocolate is something Ben & Jerry have mastered well. This flavor did not disappoint.

Well there you have it, my first two pinted reviews!
I had to go with my favorite brand right off the bat of course.
These two are probably a tie, because they are better for different purposes. Coconuts for Caramel for a bowlful of deliciousness and Cookies & Cream Cheesecake for an occasional decadent pleasure.
I am chomping at the bit to get back to making my own ice cream and it is coming very soon ( 4 days of class left!)
As to my second homemade flavor, it is going to be a surprise. But I’ll give you a hint, it’s gonna make a link between a favorite savory party snack and a tried and true flavor base. Any guesses?? Until summer break everyone, scoop ya later!
